The new Nova TV series Ancient Earth does a great job illustrating the timescales involved in the formation of our planet. The Birth of the Sky was astonishing--how long it took and what was involved for the atmosphere to form. The other episodes I've watched so far are Frozen and Life Rising, which made me think of Bonnie Garmus' fictional Lessons in Chemistry in which the protagonists investigate abiogenesis.
